The video above highlights the history of the Google logo through the years, and ends with a brand new wordmark for the brand. This change comes on the heels of last month’s corporate restructuring, and seems to have been inspired by a desire for the search giant’s logo to look great on Mobile devices. In a post on their official blog, Google reflects on their history, and looks towards the future of the internet:
Once upon a time, Google was one destination that you reached from one device: a desktop PC. These days, people interact with Google products across many different platforms, apps and devices—sometimes all in a single day. You expect Google to help you whenever and wherever you need it, whether it’s on your mobile phone, TV, watch, the dashboard in your car, and yes, even a desktop!
Today we’re introducing a new logo and identity family that reflects this reality and shows you when the Google magic is working for you, even on the tiniest screens.
The combination of reinventing for today’s internet, while keeping an eye towards the history of their company is a great philosophy for all companies looking to upgrade their internet presence as users shift their usage from desktop machines to cellphones or even watches. We think it’s smart to watch what big companies like Google do, and follow suit, in fact we’re considering changing our logo right now.
